Don’t get me wrong I love checking out the new happy hours at restaurants and bars all around town but there’s something I’ve been enjoying about having people over to the house. Everyone seems to relax a little bit more and stick around a little while longer which is what I love! Since it’s fall and I just can’t seem to get enough of this season, I made these Apple Cider Kentucky Mules for a happy hour this week. They are just like Moscow Mules but instead of vodka, I used whiskey. Vodka would of course work in this recipe and they are great sans alcohol for a virgin cocktail which was great for my girlfriend who is pregnant– a mom mule if you will!

Let me give it to you straight: I really like whiskey, straight. I’m not afraid to act like a lady and drink like a man. Well the former is questionable, but whatever (sorry PopPop!) The old fashioned is my go-to cocktail and I’m often drawn to the whiskey section on a bar menu. Last fall, I pretty much fell in love with apple cider old fashioneds and even though the cider sorta makes it a seasonal drink, I’ve been able to quit the habit. I love the touch of sweetness the cider adds! I did a cocktail class for a bachelorette party and was excited to make the ladies some blackberry bourbon smashes! It was a hit!

What I’ve Been Drinking

It’s no secret that I love a stiff cocktail. It’s also not a secret that I love to imbibe over happy hour with friends. Or on weekends or at brunch or basically whenever I can. So here is a round up of where and what I’ve been indulging in this summer! So of them are newbies and some of them I’ve mentioned before, but if I mention something twice, it’s because I really reallylike it. Cheers!

Palomas are still on top of my summer sips list and the one at Lambert’s is extra fresh.

Sake Bombs at Maiko Sushi. Is Maiko making a comeback? Or did it never really go away? I’m not sure but I’ve been invited to what seems like an endless list of group dinners there lately and thus have consumed more than my fair share of $2 sake bombs.

Rosemary’s Piglet from Salty Sow is soooooooo delicious. I wouldn’t talk about it if it wasnt. I love the combo of sweet bubbles and fragrant rosemary. Herb ice cubes… so hot right now.

Prickly Pear Margarita at Maudie’s. I’m there all the time for brunch before heading to the lake, and this beverage is my go-to. Not only is it super cool and refreshing, it’s a really eye catching drink!

Big Ass Beers at Logan’s with mustaches on sticks. Take me back to the frattier days of my youth with this absurd quantity of cheap beer, but hey what’s a girl to do when she’s on dirty 6th?

PS- Rumor has it they are turning the upper level dance party into a patio? Please tell me no…

The Devil’s Bowtie at Papi Tino’s. Something about the jalapeño infused tequila and fresh berries that gets me every time. Love that burn.

Jalapeño Cucumber Lemonade at The W. I’ll take mine with an extra dash of swank thank you very much.

And if all that drinking has left you feeling a little sluggish, head to the nearest Bloody Mary bar for a dose of hair of the dog. This one is from Stubb’s Gospel Brunch. You can cure a lot of things at once at that brunch. Can I get an Amen?!
