I had the wonderful opportunity this past weekend to go see Spinning Plates . It’s a documentary about three different restauranteurs and their struggles
and triumphs.
Honestly, at first when I received this invite I wasn’t so sure. I love a good documentary and I love food… but I wasn’t really sure if a film festival movie was “my thing”. So naturally, I didn’t respond to the email for a few days while I thought about it. What do I say if I don’t like the movie? What do I write if I do like it?
I did a little research on the movie and it looked legit, so I accepted. And boy am I glad I did! I was completely hooked in the first five minutes. This movie was right up my alley. Smart, real, emotional and realistic. Joesph Levy, the director, crafted a beautiful film that gives you a real life peak into what goes on behind the kitchen doors.
I don’t want to give too much away, but the way everything ties together at the end will really pull your heart strings.
After the we viewed the film, there was a Q&A with director. We learned he is originally from Texas and was a music major in college. You’ll notice the great music throughout the film.
Here is a link to watch the trailer of Spinning Plates. Or visit their website for more info.
I hope some local theaters pick up this film so all Austinites can enjoy it!
