I can’t believe it is almost November! Seriously, this year has been flying by. And despite some of my best efforts, fitness hasn’t made the top of the list. Luckily, between all my travels I was able to sneak a few classes at The Barre Code in Austin on South Lamar! Different than a traditional classes, it’s more high-intensity and getting that cardio and toning all in one. Plus, Cami, the owner, is like the nicest person ever! You’ll want to go back just to hang out with her. And there’s a whole parking lot on-site, so parking is never a problem when you’re trying to squeeze a workout into your hectic schedule, whew. Now I am going to kick it over to Cami Kirschner, Owner + Master Trainer of The Barre Code Austin to give us a background on her passion for barre and her fav eats in town!
When did you take your first barre class?
I took my first barre class in 2008 and while I dabble in other forms of fitness, I always return to the barre!
How did you decide to start teaching barre?
I discovered The Barre Code in 2010. I always thought about teaching but couldn’t seem to fit it into my schedule. When I decided to open a Barre Code studio last year, I knew in order to truly connect with clients I wanted to teach too. I just started teaching when we opened and have found a side of myself that I didn’t know existed. I love having a positive impact on the lives of our clients.
What makes Barre Code different from other studios?
At The Barre Code, both the classes and the environment break from tradition by focusing on what there is to gain, never what there is to lose. Words of inspiration defining our mantra remind our clients that it’s not about the superficialities that come with exercise, but about the strength that grows from within.
The Barre Code offers a full fitness regimen broken down into three key types of classes: cardio, strength training and restoration. Cardio and strength training classes are full-body workouts intended to target arms, abs, glutes and thighs, while restoration classes focus on building a mind-body connection, thanking your body for the work it’s done.
What’s your favorite post-workout food or drink?
My favorite post-work drink is the Green Monster smoothie from Soup Peddler. My husband and I like to stop for breakfast tacos at the Veracruz Taco food truck at Radio Coffee after a morning at the studio.
What are some of your favorite local restaurants to indulge at?
It is difficult to narrow it down! I love Justine’s and Perla’s for date nights and Homeslice and Matt’s El Rancho for dinners out with the fam. We are new to town, the options are overwhelming!
When you’re not eating great food or teaching at Barre Code, where can we find you?
Surrounded by family and friends. I love a house full of people. I have 2 kids – ages 7 and 2. We love picnics at the Green Belt, family games of corn hole and now that the weather is cooling down, sitting by the fire pit making s’mores.
We are new to Austin and the community. I can’t say enough about how welcoming everyone has been. I love the laid back vibe and am thrilled to be a part of such a fit and supportive community!
