I was lucky enough to snag an invite to a media preview of Emmer & Rye last night! Although the doors aren’t open quite yet, they are hoping for an October opening, that didn’t stop their team of chefs from delivering a delicious tasting of what is to come! I am thrilled at the thought of having more upscale eats on Rainey Street, truly making it a destination dining spot in downtown Austin. Of course, we all know how much I love and adore carbs, so I am excited and impressed with how Chef Kevin Fink and team are incorporating grains into the menu in what could be the height of anti-gluten cuisine. Can we start #BringBackGluten? I wouldn’t be mad about that! Anyways, scroll on for lots of food porn and my write-up for Austin Food Magazine!
Italic Austin is opening this week! Hooray! Finally more italian food in Austin, not to mention it is from ELM Group, who is responsible for some of my favorite bread in town, i.e. Easy Tiger. So an addition of an Italian restaurant seems like a natural fit for the group. I was so excited to get an invite to their media night last week for a sneak peek at the menu and the gorgeous mid-century modern space. The restaurant is tucked in the McGarrah Jessee building right next to one of my favorite bars in town Garage. Hello date night!
Ok lets starting talking about how I can’t stop talking about Kimchi Fries from Chi’Lantro BBQ. Like OMG can’t stop, won’t stop. But seriously. These may be on the top ten things I’ve ever put in my mouth, for reals. These salty, bbq-y, kimchi-y, so savory you’ll be dreaming about them for weeks, fries are tastebud changing. These things definitely Chi’Lantro on the foodie map in Austin. They started from humble beginnings, a guy and his food truck trying to navigate the way through the ATX hipster food scene in the biggest rise in food trucks since, ever? I mean how many food trucks do you that have their own Wikipedia page? These guys are legit, not to mention they have several accolades from everyone from Food Network to being featured at ACL. And there is a reason, because they are that good.
